The Best Job in the World

In this present scenario of gloomy world economy and job market, Tourism Queensland in Australia have created "the Best Job in the World". Called as "the Caretaker of the Islands of the Great Barrier Reef", this lucrative job offer have already attracted more than 2000 applications from all over the world. And the official website has already attracted so much interest that the tourism department has had to upgrade their server from one to ten.

Duties of the Caretaker will include some minor tasks such as exploring the islands of the Great Barrier Reef, updating your video diary and photo gallery, reporting to Tourism Queensland, feeding some of the hundreds of species of fish and collecting the island's mail. In return you will get an opportunity to live in the Great Barrier Reef for six month with a salary package of AUD$150,000 ($103,000; £70,000) for a six-month contract. Accommodation will be provided on Hamilton Island in a rent-free villa, with pool.

What about the requirements? They are looking for someone with an adventurous attitude, passion for the outdoors and good communication skills. Selection will be based on enthusiasm for the role, entertainment value, presentation skills and at least one year's relevant experience.

To apply, you must create a 60 second or less application video in English, explaining why you are the best person for the job in an entertaining way. Along with a short online application, you must upload that video to www.islandreefjob.com. Then 50 application will be short-listed and website visitors will be able to vote for the applicants. From those top 50, 10 lucky applicants will be short-listed by Tourism Queensland. Those 10, along with 1 selected through wild card (highest online votes) will be invited to attend final interview on a number of islands of the Great Barrier Reef. Through an extensive selection process, one applicant will be chosen for the 'Best Job in the World" and the name will be announced at a media function on the evening of the 6th May, 2009.
