69th Marathon in the age of 69

Can you dare to run a marathon in the age of 69 years? I am sure that only a handful of us can dare to do so. But, a 69 years old women has just completed the 69th marathon run of her life. Her name is Pauline Newsholme and she is from Teignmouth.

Pauline runs marathons for a cause. Her daughter Clare was paralysed at the age of six after suffering a rare complication from measles. So, Pauline decided to run marathons to raise money for a children's charity. Now, her daughter recovered fully and her efforts helped in raising more than £20,000 for children's charities.

Pauline ran her first half marathon in February 1982 in Oxford. After that, she has run marathons all over the world, including Helsinki, Toronto, New York, Dublin, Venice and Paris. Her husband Eric, 72, and daughter Glenda, 45, also joined her in many marathons.

So, what we can learn from this 69 years old runner? We can learn than, with determination and best efforts we can do anything in this world. And age is not a limiting factor for any kind of work.

The world's first ever sand hotel has been opened in the Weymouth beach of Dorset, England. Take a look at the image above. The structure was created by a hotel company to celebrate a resurgence of holidaymakers flocking to the seaside. One can book to stay in this unique hotel for £10 a night, which includes beds made out of sand, until the rain washes it away!

It took 1000 tonnes of sand and a team of four sculptors working 14 hours a day with the help of a JCB, for 7 days to build the sand hotel on Weymouth beach. The sand hotel offers a twin and double bedroom. But, according to the firm, that created the sand hotel, the unique roofless structure will also give guests the chance to "star-gaze" at night.

Want to book a room in this unique hotel? Well, the firm warns that there is no toilet facilities! So, be prepared to adjust with the situation.

World's First Bird

Palaeontologists have discovered the World's first bird. Take a look at the image above. Known as Kuehneosaurus, this lizard-like flying reptile inhabited the warm late Triassic period from 235 to 200 million years ago. Kuehneosaurus was first discovered in the UK inside an ancient cave system near Bristol.

Palaeobiologist Koen Stein from Institute of Palaeontology, Bonn, Germany, with Colin Palmer, Pamela Gill and Michael Benton from Bristol University's Department of Earth Sciences carried out the research on aerodynamic capability of kuehneosaurus. They performed some important aerodynamic tests and simulations with lifesize models of the creatures. And they found that kuehneosaurus was aerodynamically very stable. Jumping from a tree, this flying reptile could easily have crossed 9m before landing on the ground.

The pioneering findings of Koen Stein and his team were published this week by the Paleontological Association.
